You’ve been waiting to sleep over his place for a while, and you’re feeling pretty confident he’s going to invite you over any day (or night) now. However, the invitation is guaranteed to be random, and you want to make sure you’re prepared for the awkward things that can happen during your first night at your new guy’s place, right? We feel you.
1. Waking up without makeup.
When you first start to dating someone, you go to great lengths to keep your makeup looking #flawless at all times. Realistically, you probably aren’t going to have the opportunity to remove your makeup before falling asleep,, so you’ll probably wake up with some mascara smudges. Overall, however, you’ll probably have more makeup on the pillow than on your face… Remember, you want your guy to get to know the real you, but you can always quickly take your bag into the bathroom and throw on some powder to freshen up.
2. You might smell.
After spending a night at your new guy’s place, you may not smell your best. There could be a variety of causes – like not applying deodorant consistently over the course of the previous evening.. While you don’t want to show up for your next date with a full overnight bag in preparation for a sleepover that may or may not happen, , you can easily keep travel-sized deodorant, wipes, toothpaste and a toothbrush in your bag juuuust in case.
3. You may do things in your sleep.
If it’s been awhile since you had a sleepover with anyone, you may be unaware that you talk, sing, or walk in your sleep. While these habits can eventually become a cute, endearing part of a relationship, you might just feel self-conscious at first. Wait until the next morning to see if your man says anything about your strange sleeping habits, and if he does, laugh it off woman!
4. You don’t have fresh clothes to wear in the morning.
As an adult, dealing with the walk of shame sucks, and venturing out early in the morning wearing high-heels and a miniskirt is a dead giveaway. Starting to keep clothes at your guy’s place is widely considered a bad idea until he’s invited you to do so. So for now, just throw on a pair of flats and wrap a light jacket around your waist for a more casual look.
5. You won’t know exactly what to do in the morning.
Once you’ve slept over his place, you may feel uneasy about extending your stay for too long. Ultimately, you have to play it by ear, but you’re probably going to have the awkward “what-are-we-doing-today” conversation. Suggest something casual, like grabbing a cup of coffee. Insisting that you spend the entire day together could be misinterpreted, and you could come off as clingy, or moving too quickly in the relationship. This ultimately depends on how long you’ve been together before you slept over at his place, though.
You can be prepared to some extent, but these first sleepovers are a natural part of any relationship. Eventually, you’ll become more comfortable staying the night, and the occasional first-night-over blunders will be something you laugh about in the months to come.
