Being 20-something and single is a special time in your life that you should cherish and appreciate. Don’t listen to others who say you should be focusing on marriage, kids, etc. You have all the time in the world for that! Just enjoy being a free spirit and making memories that will enrich your life.
What have you always dreamed of doing since you were a kid? Now’s the time to do it before you settle down. You may feel somewhat left out if most of your friends are married and starting families, but chances are they’re secretly jealous of your freedom and lifestyle. Take advantage of it. Instead of worrying about walking down the aisle with a bouquet in your hands, focus on the following:
Throw yourself into your career.
Focus all your energy on your career or pursuing more education right now and see where that leads you. Put in the extra hours and show your superiors that you have the ‘right stuff’ to go all the way to the top. Who knows? With all your hard work you could be managing the company a year from now.
Work on self-improvement and personal growth.
Work on every aspect of you, including your diet, exercise routine, and any other self-improvement techniques like performing yoga or learning to meditate. By tapping into the real you and getting to know yourself, you’ll discover hidden strengths, talents, and desires you never knew you had. Take this time to make the best you that you can be. This is the perfect opportunity to reflect on who you really are and to grow your character. Use this time to figure out where you’re headed in life and which path you want to follow in order to deepen your life experiences.
Travel and explore the world.
Once you’re in a committed relationship or married, your plans to travel will often have to revolve around another person and their schedule, which makes it much more difficult. It’s much easier to explore the world and travel to any destination you desire while you’re still single. Immerse yourself in faraway, interesting cultures. The experiences you’ll have, see, and learn about will be invaluable.
Go out whenever you like.
There’s nothing else like total freedom to come and go as you please. Your schedule is the only schedule that matters. Want to take a long weekend and head to Vegas? Go for it. How about hiking at Yellowstone Park? Just you, the big blue sky, and plenty of fresh air? Now’s the time to go. It will be an experience you’ll cherish for the rest of your life.
Reconnect with your friends.
Your friends are priceless. In fact, men may come and go, but your true friends will always have your back. Twenty years from now, you’ll be much more disappointed because you didn’t experience life to the fullest rather than doing what society or your mother wanted you to do – settle down. Make great memories with your friends, even if it’s just spending time together and talking.
Explore new hobbies and expand your social circle.
There’s always something new and exciting to learn and meet different kinds of people along the way. Surround yourself and get to know people that are much different from yourself. They can teach you things that will enhance your life’s journey. Reach out and make new friends and widen your social network.
You’re in your twenties right now and you can do one of two things: sit around and sulk because everyone else is in a relationship but you (which isn’t true anyway), or get out and experience life to the absolute fullest. The choice is yours.
