You finally met this hot, classy guy, went out with him on a first date to dinner at a nice restaurant and by the end of the date you were left wondering if he would ever acknowledge your existence again. As first dates go, you would have to say that you royally screwed this one up. In fact, you have even since entertained the idea of changing your name, phone number and zip code for good measure. Okay, so the first date was bad, but despite that you keep thinking it would be nice to have a second shot with this hotty. What are the chances you will be able to fix the damage? If he is a guy worth having, then he will probably be open to an honest effort on your part to make amends. Here are five tips to help you fix that first date gone bad.
Give Him Space
The first step is to give the guy some space. If you call him too quickly, then chances are he will suspect that you are either desperate or that something is off with your approach. This will be especially true if he was feeling awkward about how the first date went. It is often best to just allow things to settle for a couple of days before trying to initiate contact. Plus, this will give the guy some time to miss you a bit. If he is into you to any degree, giving him the opportunity to miss you will only encourage and reinforce those emotions. Giving someone time to deal with a bad first date will often take some of the awkwardness out of the whole ordeal as well.
Make Contact
If a couple days has gone by and you have not heard from him, then it is probably time to give the hunk a quick ring. At this point, you are not looking to spend an hour on the phone dishing on your life’s story. This is just a quick call to feel out the situation. If he sounds receptive and happy to hear from you, then he’s probably gotten over the awkward bad first date vibe. Just be honest at this point and let him know that you just weren’t yourself the other night and you would like to go out again. He will either say “Yes” or “No”! If he refuses, then simply give him more space and try again at a later time. If he agrees, then let him know what you have planned.
Plan to Meet for Coffee
It is generally a bad idea to do the whole restaurant thing on a first date. It is even worse to try to fix a bad first date with another restaurant encounter. Negative emotions tend to be strongest around the dinner table, and what you are looking to do is let this guy know you want to have fun. Consequently, a quick cup of coffee and a more casual atmosphere, such as a coffee shop, will make for a much more relaxed time. After a cup of coffee, you might suggest something more romantic like a nice evening stroll along the beach by moonlight. This is an opportunity to hold hands and get a little closer, which is probably what he wants to do anyway.
Change Your Perfume
In the event you have the opportunity to see the hotty again, it is a good idea to change your perfume. The scent of smell is a strong sense that will tend to rapidly bring back old memories. By changing the type of perfume you wear to something different, you can artfully erase one of the sensory hooks he would otherwise make to the past when he smells the old perfume’s scent. A different scent, especially if it is a light fragrance, will have a tendency to generate a whole different set of emotions. If a light fragrance is clearly not your cup of tea, then a pheromone-based perfume may be a better choice. The important thing is that you are not sporting the same scent as before.
Let Him Know You Have a Surprise Waiting for Him
Nothing creates mystery and ramps up the anticipation of seeing someone again like the thought of waiting for a surprise. Even if the first date was bad, he will be wondering what this surprise is that you are planning. It will occupy the back of his mind all the way up to the moment you spring it on him. The surprise might be a special little gift, a nice kiss by moonlight, or something more…naughty. Whatever the case, the important thing is that you use your imagination and add your own personal touch to this surprise you have planned. Make it count and he will forget all about that bad first date.
